Helping Hands 7 - The squire

Seventh of the monthly posting of the other world Henchman in conjunction with  Duke of the Blood Keep  and  Minis by Finch   Old Citadel Giant Snail - Terrifying! Thanks to this  challenge I actually finished an otherworld figure. At the moment I am lagging behind on what I want to do, despite having nearly 2 weeks off. The squire started as a chore to get done but after breaking the back of the figure I eventually learnt to love him.Hopefully the next two in the challenge will be easier. Otherworld Evil Wizard My total figure count for 2015 is going to be 192 and has stuck to mainly to my main on going projects:- D&D Adventures 97 Darkest Africa     67 US WW2             22 Call of Cthulhu       6 Total                   192 Unfortunately  the distraction into WW2 prevented me finishing m...

Helping Hands 6 - The bearer

Fifth of the monthly posting of the other world Henchman in conjunction with  Duke of the Blood Keep  and  Minis by Finch   The miniature is the bearer, similar to the previous bearer that I had painted, I took a bit more time with the figure (but still limiting the time to less than an hour) and tried to limit my washes  My previous bearer from the Otherworld miniatures kickstartter. Base continues to be Deneb Stone.

Helping Hands 5 - The Scribe

F orth of the monthly posting of the other world Henchman in conjunction with  Duke of the Blood Keep  and  Minis by Finch   The miniature is the scribe, reviewing the ritual from the ancient tomb won at some cost to the party. I have struggled to get anything done this month with only 2 figures painted and I did not think I would finish this on, although it could be argued he still needs a bit of work. Slightly different bases colour this month using Deneb Stone in my quest to get the colours light enough to show the figure up.

Helping Hands 4

F orth of the monthly posting of the other world Henchman in conjunction with  Duke of the Blood Keep  and  Minis by Finch   The miniature is link boy, the valiant torchbearer leading the adventurers to reward or ruin. This time out I have varied my flesh mix using a Vallejo paints including medium flesh. The result is a much lighter flesh finish than I usually do. but one I quite like. The basket work was completed with a simple wash of GW agrax earth shade which I am conscious of using far too much

Helping Hands 3

Third of the monthly posting of the other world Henchman in conjunction with Duke of the Blood Keep and Minis by Finch This time it's the turn of the poor donkey, carrying an excess of adventurer baggage. I have tried feathering the body of the donkey with the intention of showing up the texture of the hairs but I am uncertain how effective it is. Similarly with the white underbody, I am wondering if I have gone too far down the legs. As a bonus I painted the Cerepod (or Grell for the original Fiend Folio), the poor donkey is doomed. The Cerepod is painted in similar colours to the one on the otherworld site which having looked up its entry in the Fiend Folio are not strictly speaking authentic! In addition ahead of starting on my Drow and Driders I have test painted two old GW Demonettes. Clearly the grey one is the test paint (however stupidly I forgot to note which grey I started with), the pink one was to try out some new paints. I tried something ...

Update Q2 2014

OK, somehow I have had a very productive 6 months with 142 figures painted YTD, more than some year. July has suffered with only four but hopefully August will improve. Anyway in Q2 I finished:- 1             Modern Zombie 33               Darkest Africa – Mainly Masai 45              DnD creatures include a couple of terrain pieces 79          Total DnD creatures include most of the otherworld slimes, the giant ants, otherworld dungeon treasures and a few Gothic horror types including yet another vampire. May look to finish of my Masai (only 20 to go) or my Familiars, Drow and Driders next. Once my enthusiasm returns. A

Helping Hands 2

Second of the monthly posting of the other world Henchman in conjunction with Duke of the Blood Keep and Minis by Finch   This time it's the turn of the animal handler, with a front and back shot. His only weapon appears to be the wooded stick so he better be lucky when delving.  Bit more care taken on the face this time out and hopefully it shows.

Helping Hands Challenge 1

The first of the monthly  posting of the other world Henchman in conjunction with  Duke of the Blood Keep  and  Minis by Finch Quite a simple paint job with the face not looking as good close up as the impression on the table, something to improve I feel.

Otherworld Figures

Just a few more figures painted this year. Otherworld Demon Statue Otherworld Frost Giant Otherworld Water Weird

Ants for the Antmaster

Just finished off the Otherworld giant ants. These figures are quite fragile (I snapped off one leg and an antenna) as they need the legs and antennas stuck on to the body which is not as hard as it looks, but requires some patience. The bases were a quandary, dungeon or out door. I eventually opted for outdoors with some rocks as I may also use these with may Darkest Africa stuff. Colour was quite simple, first I painted the underside GW Verrmin brown then a heavy wash of GW Agrax Nightshade. I then repeated the process for the top half. This left me with fully painted ants but to improve (hopefully) the look, I highlighted the top only with GW Vermin Brown followed by a lighter highlight of GW Vermin Brown mixed with white. Eye's are GW Regal blue with a highlight of Enchanted blue. Then add some flock and job done.

Update end of Q1

This is posted a lot later than originally intended. So far I have stuck reasonably to the plan raised in December with the following painted to end of March. 1              COC Byakhee 23           Darkest Africa – Mainly Masai 10           US WW2 Yanks – The remainder have base coats just need finishing. 29            DnD creatures include a couple of terrain pieces 63           Total No zombies but that is not a surprise, started to get distracted on a few side projects such as moderns (africa), and 1980's cold war gone hot, but to date I have resisted. To end of June I am aiming for more of the same with Masai and WW2 yanks mixed in with some fantasy stuff (Demon, slimes and jellies and Ants are ready to go with the bas...

The Helping Hand Challenge (repost)

A repost of  a challnege set up by Duke of the Blood Keep and Minis by Finch  which I intend on joining in. Both sites are excellent insperation for old school gaming and painting, and on with the repsot:- For those who don’t know about Minis by Finch , it’s an excellent site full of beautifully painted minis by a chap called Finch. We’ve both admired each others work for years and I thought it would be cool to do something together, so I came up with the Helping Hand Challenge. Our aim is to paint one miniature from Otherworld’s DAB 4 boxset a month starting in June 2014 and finishing in May 2015. However, we’d like to spread the love and open this challenge out to other bloggers too, so here are the rules: You must own the DAB4 Boxset You must own a blog You must paint one miniature a month in the order shown below You must post your results on the last day of each month You must include a link to each other participating blog That...

Just Like Hawkeye - The Hawkeye Initiative

The Hawkeye Initiative I actually quite like this idea. Comic book females redrawn as Hawkeye to see if the pose is reasonable or not. Certainly shows up the continued flaws with Rob Leifeld's work (see below) which I find laughable compared to my favorites from the dawn of comics.

Wicker Man

A quick photo post of the Alan the Wicker Man by Ainsty casting . On the base is a 28mm Citadel yokel to give an indication of scale, base is scratch built.
